KEVIN ACKLIN ISSUES SECOND DEBATE CHALLENGE TO MAYOR RAVENSTAHL
Independent mayoral candidate renews call for a "vigorous discussion of the issues," including at least two "town hall open forums"
PITTSBURGH – Eight weeks after first calling for mayoral debates, and still without a response from Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Independent Mayoral candidate Kevin Acklin today renewed his call for a series of debates in advance of the November 3rd general election.
“The people of Pittsburgh deserve a thorough and vigorous discussion of the issues facing our city,” Acklin said. “They deserve a Mayor who’s willing to face them, his opponent, and the hard questions of how to support our families and improve our neighborhoods."
Acklin’s proposal, first issued in a letter to the Mayor on July 8th, calls a minimum of four televised debates, one to be carried by each of the three major commercial stations and one by PBS station, WQED. The format for at least two of the debates, Acklin says, should be "interactive, Presidential-debate-style, town hall open forums," allowing for a livelier discussion and exchange of the issues important to Pittsburgh voters.
Such a format, Acklin says, will allow both candidates to interact directly with voters, and to tailor their debates to issues most relevant to city residents.
